What to look for when finding a therapist for your child.
Find someone who feels like they are going to understand your kid and their unique challenges.
Find someone who is willing to keep you in the loop while respecting your child's confidentiality.
Make sure they see your child as an equal who won’t downplay how your child is feeling.
Your therapist should be willing to work with your child’s other helpers like their school counselor and doctors. Make sure they know how to interact in those situations.
Make sure they are able to see your child when they have availability like in the evenings and weekends.
Finally, go with your gut. You know what’s best for your child.
